RE: Help..... We need Opinions on what RV to Buy?

We have a similar family makeup...we have a 15 year old boy and 13 year old boy...3 cats... We bought a Newmar Kountry Star 3910 and love it!! I'd recommend a Newmar any day of the week. Ours is the floorplan with double sofas...one pulls out to make a queen bed and the other folds flat like a futton. It works for us, but if our kids wanted to have company, it would be weird...especially since they are girl/boy. It's also okay if it's just "us" going on vacation and not with anyone else...we can leave the beds made up and out and then go off sightseeing all day to return to the beds ready to sleep in. If camping with others, though, we can't invite anyone in...or we have to break down the beds...can be a pain. If I could do it all over again, I would consider getting one with bunks or adding bunks to a medium or higher end coach (my husband didn't want a gas model nor the entry level model). That way they would have a place to sleep, but we would still have a "living" area...AND...if they wanted to invite friends, they could be separate...because we'd still have a sofa that would pull out and make a bed. Hindsight is 20/20, though. It "is" nice to have the double sofas, though, when traveling...they have their own "space" and no one is on top of another...which means less fighting/arguing. Our kids are good, but when traveling, it's best to have their own "space" We never were able to see a class A with bunks and they didn't seem to be available unless in the gas model or lower end. Now I've heard of people adding them and that they are more readily available. Also when we were looking, we were looking at later down the road when we didn't have the kids and what we'd like and what would have better resale...but like I said...I think I would have rather had the bunks as an option. We "did" see a class C that had bunks that was pretty neat...very roomy and accommodating. It was one of those super Class C's...it was a Seneca and like I said...had a back bedroom with a queen, bunks and then a hide a bed. It looked like the perfect set up and was really nice. I don't know anything about them but they are made by Jayco and I don't know anything about them either. I did read one review that wasn't great about them when we were looking and it scared me a bit because we aren't "fixer upper" people...that's why we went with Newmar because of their reputation of building a great motorhome. We did meet some people with a Seneca, though, while camping and they loved it and had no problems. Good luck with your decision. Like someone suggested, you might want to consider renting a few to see what works for you before you buy. We are happy with our motorhome, but wish we had thought about "friends".... The other thing we didn't think about...when we bought our toad...we sold our suburban and bought a jeep so we could have a tow vehicle. LOVE IT and love the gas mileage...BUT only thing we forgot was that it only holds 5 people...again...if our kids bring friends there's no room for all, if we go sightseeing...so something else to think about. Hope that helps out and good luck with your decision! :B

RE: Camping in Houston

There's a Yogi Bear RV Park in Waller...it's West of Houston off of I10 north. We live in Katy and actually stayed there one weekend and drove in for church, so it was only about 20-30 minutes. Their phone number is: 800-347-5106. I'm not sure what your needs are, but when we were there, it was clean and easy pull-throughs, full-hookups, a couple of pools (one was being heated...one is like a water park), a putting green, cabins, a fishing pond...look them up at: www.lonestarcamping.com There's a new KOA down I10, too, and it doesn't look too bad...especially if you're visiting family and really only looking for a place to park. There's also a place called Rayford Crossing that's up I45 near the Woodlands that looks nice but we've never camped there, but we get stuff from them all the time. It might not be convenient, though, if your family is in West Houston. Good luck and have fun!...and hope you find a nice place to stay.

RE: One More Newmar Complaint

What do you expect Newmar to do? I suspect he'd like them to fix it so it stays fixed...and find out why it's out of alignment again after having been fixed...there must be some reason this is happening

RE: AM Radio

Thanks for the replies and suggestions. Seems like I may have been "taken" by my dealer, telling me there was something wrong with the radio and it needed to be replaced. We'll be discussing that. Regarding one post: Since there are fewer and fewer AM Stations why bother! Answer: Talk radio...gotta love it!:W

AM Radio

Does anyone have trouble picking up AM radio stations in their motorhome? We've never been able to get AM radio...when we've tried...and at first were told that the reception at the dealer wasn't good and then when we travel our kids are always watching tv, and then we forgot to check it...then we're in wooded areas when camping...and on the road I don't want to get out of my seat and fool with the radio, etc. I can get AM stations on my car at the dealership and was told that it's hard to get any AM stations from motorhomes because they don't connect it to the antenna or the antenna isn't that good or something ...ANYWAY...just wondering if ANYONE out there listens to AM radio from their motorhome or if you have a problem getting AM stations. I was told my radio needed to be replaced but then when I tried to get the AM stations, well...that's when I was told that no one can really get AM stations in a motorhome...so...then I asked, "well then did I just replace my radio for no good reason?"...hmmmmmmmmmm. So...does anyone out there listen to AM radio in their motorhome?

RE: Seinfeld Bus

My question is "why?"...that's not even a current show...so why are they touring around?...distributing cookies...I don't get it.

RE: Traveling Armed

We usually carry a couple of baseball bats...but since our kids are getting older, might consider it. When? Will I tell when? Nope! :B

RE: What Happens With The Dealer's Motorhomes in Houston?

Well we took ours in this week (Tuesday) to replace a missing chrome tailpipe extension just in case we needed it to evacuate...without it, it would melt more of our mudflap/rock guard. They told us "no problem" we can get it done. We were told by city officials to "shelter in place" based on our zip code and so we wouldn't clog up the highways while the lower areas were trying to evacuate. We decided that we would "hunker down" and stay and not evacuate, based on the current path at that time. We talked about the fact that it might even be safer at the dealer vs. our storage because of our storage is south of the us and the dealer is north of us. I tried to call them Thursday to touch base on where our motorhome was and stuff like that...no answer. Tried to call today...no answer. So much for getting it to evacuate! :E I guess it's a good thing we decided to stay. I can't blame them for leaving and taking care of busines...non essential businesses should have let their employees go home and secure their own residences...but a phone call would have been nice...thinking they should have taken care of business a little bit better before leaving by touching base with those of us that had our MH's in their care.

RE: To Replace or Not to Replace (Mudflap)

The tail pipe you are probably losing it because you probably have it pointed straight down. Actually we did have it pointed to the side and not down. The first one we lost was installed by the manufacturer...the second one was replaced by the dealer...and was suppose to be tack welded...or at least my husband asked that it was...but don't think this was done. I'm not sure about putting it back further. I will check to see if that is possible. I'm thinking about putting some sort of bracket around it...and maybe pull up my mudflap, but will also discuss this with my dealer...as well as take suggestions that I've received here and another place about taking a link out of the chain and cutting a little more room out of the flap for the tailpipe. It's just frustrating because my mudflap is melted and not sure if I can cut away the melted part or not...and if so what it will look like. I want it to look as "classy" as it did when we bought it and not cut corners...but I also don't want to throw away money and want to make sure it's fixed right so this won't happen again!!! :M Thanks for the info and if you have any more, please let me know!

To Replace or Not to Replace (Mudflap)

We returned from a short weekend trip with another missing tailpipe and damaged (melted) mudflap. :M This is the second time our chrome tailpipe extension has come off. The first time all was replaced under warranty, but now it's on our nickle. I'm frustrated that this has happened again. I'm not really sure what's goin on and why it happened, although someone mentioned that if we dipped, the mudflap might have hit and knocked off the chrome extension...although I have no memory of low dips or adverse driving conditions. My question, though, is not why this happened (although I will certainly be speaking to my dealer about this), but my question is should I replace the mudflap or not. 1. Is it really necessary? Pros/Cons? 2. If I don't replace it, do I need to buy some sort of protection for my tow vehicle? Suggestions? 3. Is one type of mudflap better than another...solid vs. brush-type? Thanks for any info/opinion/suggestions

RE: golf cart

Looks pretty fun and I like that you can just "hitch" it onto the back of your toad, but I wonder how really comfortable it is with two adults in the front...especially if they are larger adults...and the steering is like that of a bike, not a car steering wheel, so to really steer it, you should be in the middle. :h Doesn't look difficult to drive, but to be safe you should probably have both hands on the handle bars.... Interesting...wonder if anyone on the forum owns one and can give a testimonial???

RE: driving motorhome on highway 34 - Rocky Mts. National Park

I don't know...Trail Ridge Road can be a little steep and windy...I many years of visiting the area, we have only seen one trailer being pulled and no motorhomes. I think I'd recommend driving it in your toad and leave the MH in the campground. Sometimes just driving it in a car makes me nervous, though! :E

RE: Fort Wilderness is BUSY!!!

We ran into the same problem. We didn't get our extra days and ended up staying at the KOA in Kissimmee...it was actually really nice and easy to get to things...but this was in December, so you might have better luck...and I'd definitely keep calling...but have a backup plan, too. Good luck!

RE: Garner State Park, TX

We haven't stayed at Garner before but have heard it can get crowded. If you don't know, school doesn't start around here (we're in Texas, too) until Aug 25th, so it still may be a little crowded before school starts. Inks Lake SP is pretty big and there are sights right there on the water...or if not, really close. Most of those are back in sights and you'd definitely want to drive down and see the sights before settling on one. Good luck and have fun!

RE: Gettysburg help please

I know your request was different, but if you've never been to Gettysburg to see the battleground and don't know, there's a CD that you can buy at the Visitor's Center that you can play in your car and use as a driving tour. It was excellent. It gave a lot of history and information and leads you from spot to spot. You listen while you drive and also when you are at the location. You turn it off sometimes and can stop it at any time, too. My kids enjoyed it as well (ages 13/15). We could go from spot to spot at our own leisure. There are actually 2 that are available. We chose the shorter one, I think, since we only had that day and not a really long time. We got this tip from another family while visiting DC and were glad we knew to ask about it. Enjoy!
